Alaafin praises Odu’a group for upholding culture

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has lauded the efforts of the management of Odua’a Investment Company Limited for upholding the Yoruba heritage in the structure of the company.  He also hailed what he described as the leadership position that the conglomerate occupied in the nation’s economy.

The monarch spoke on Wednesday when he visited the firm’s corporate headquarters in Ibadan.

The monarch said, “I am happy to note that Odu’a, which started business on October 1, 1976, has become one of the biggest companies in Nigeria and has been operating as a conglomerate, with 70 per cent of its business as joint venture with reputable multinational companies.

“I want to specially commend the  management of the company for rekindling Yoruba arts  and heritage because a race that forgets its culture will soon reach the point of extinction.

She was a member-by-marriage of the royal family of Emperor Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba people. She was the wife of King Oranmiyan of Ife (and later Oyo). A woman of tremendous beauty and a faithful and zealous supporter of her husband and the Kingdom of Ile Ife. At this time there were neighboring tribes called Igbo, who were regularly and successfully raiding the people at and around Ile Ife. enslaved by these people, and because of this they were generally regarded with disdain by the Yoruba city-states.

Akure Kingdom gets new woman monarch

The first daughter of late Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida, who died of an undisclosed ailment on the 2nd of December, has been made the he new traditional ruler of Akure Kingdom. Princess Adetutu Adeside-Ojie's position is said to be temporary pending when a new king emerges. She was installed after several traditional rites for the passage of her late father came to conclusion recently. The 36 year old new monarch lived abroad most of her life and holds a degree in pharmacy from the Texas Southern University, Houston Texas. Until her appointment as the Kingdom's regent, Princess Adetutu worked as a clinical pharmacist with the University Health system, Hospital in San Antonto Texas. She is married with three children.
